Ken's introduction
Ken White blogspot
Welcome to my first attempt at a blog; my interest in things natural will be reflected in the choice of my photos presented here. My moto is "Look again". It could equally well be as far as the photos are concerned "always room for improvement". !
This was certainly the case for Diwali, the male Osprey [N.American race] that I rescued from a flooding whirlpool on the north coast of Trinidad; he had been feeding on a fish while perched on a log, facing inland on the edge of the incoming tide, when a huge breaking wave fell on him and dragged him into a swirling whirlpool. With the stuffing knocked out of him and completely waterlogged, he spun round and round in the pool unable to generate the energy to get out, so I waded in, somewhat nervously it has to be said, as the swirling water was turbid and cloudy and I didn't know how deep it was, but eventually I grabbed him and staggered to a dry sand bar. Sarah rushed over with her camera and grabbed a few shots.
He soon started drying out in the tropical sunshine and I eventually managed to find a horizontal branch of a shoreline tree and left him there to drip dry. Our Hindu guide told us it was Diwali day, 26th October 2011, so that is how he got his name. I think of him every day.
